[Sometime during the day both of these nerds have migrated to the library. Although at the table Alhaitham has comandeered, all the books he has are actually magical texts from the sitting room. He just needed more table space for everything. He's got quite a bit of variety pulled from there in separate stacks, but notably none of them are the ones about unlocking magical potential. Seems that's not a topic of his interest.
He does glance up when he hears McGillis' footsteps, setting his gaze on him for a moment to see where he's going.]
[ McGillis is here for... actually, he has been reading about unlocking magical potential and similar power acquisition things a lot recently. Given that they both frequent the variety of book spaces, Alhaitham might have noticed as much.
Either way, McGillis sighs almost inaudibly when he finds that Alhaitham came here before him. It was obvious that they wouldn't be able to avoid one another for long, but the situation remains awkward. ]
Good morning.
[ Normal greeting as he moves past to inspect a shelf nearby for whatever book he is currently trying to re-locate in the ever-changing mess. ]
Morning. [Alhaitham, meanwhile, considers himself to have done nothing wrong and is also very used to people begrudging his presence so this is just another normal day for him.
Since McGillis goes straight for the books nearby. Alhaitham watches for a moment longer before turning back to the book in front of him.]
[ And for a while, this is all that happens. McGillis peruses the shelf until he finds whatever specific tome he needed today, in complete silence. This marks it as a day ending in -y in the library, as they've spent weeks here like this, in silence.
But after he's found his book and before he's going to find himself table-space of his own... ]
By the way... For what it's worth, I hold no personal resentment towards you and hope to continue cooperating for our common goals.
Good. I don't actually care of you like me or not, but it'd be troublesome for people to fragment the group by allowing personal biases to create enemies. This wish giving demon needs to remain our focus.
A degree of personal resentment is bound to crop up thanks to the bloody play we are made to act out here, but if we can keep interference to a minimum we'll have the highest odds of making it out of here.
[ And making it out of here means never seeing each other again, so clearly this is win-win!! ]
Even if that weren't the case, it's impossible for everyone to get along. Certain personalities would still chafe against each other--this situation just exacerbates people's existing feelings.
[But those need to be recognized and then boxed up so they don't interfere with the final goal. Sometimes your simply have to tolerate people to achieve something important.]
... But I'm curious what has you so interested in books about unsealing magic.
I see. [Seems like he could have just said that then, but Alhaitham does recognize if they want to not go insane they need to occasionally engage in some hobby time.
That's just not what he's doing right now.] Of course, in this place it's likely any sudden development of magic ability is going to be tied to a wish and we know that hasn't ended well so far.

And what about the ones you do have personal resentment for?

The same. I value my life too much to let spite sabotage my chances of survival.

Wouldn't you be, if you were unfamiliar with magic powers and left as their plaything?
no subject
But maybe you're hoping that those books will teach you how to unlock some hidden potential in yourself or something else?

Consider it flights of fancy to keep myself from drowning in boredom while we wait for the next bloodshed.
