Logic doesn't really work in this case, does it? When the infection itself makes people illogical and unlikely to listen to reason.

No, and that's exactly the problem.
[Because now neither of them can be logical. And just in general, Alhaitham hates when logic doesn't work.]
Since the infection can't be traced, it'd be best if everyone thought to be clear was retested.
